Mercurius Publicus was an official English newsbook—a precursor to the modern newspaper—published weekly during the Restoration era. Edited by Henry Muddiman, the 1661 issues were titled “Comprising the Sum of all Affairs now in Agitation” and offered readers a highly partisan, royalist summary of foreign news and domestic events. Vol 8. Housed in a library binding from the Sutro Library in 1885. With Library bookplate. This issue covers Nov 14-28, 1661 and is 16 pages on very thin and very old stock paper. The marbled hard cover boards are still intact and stamped Sutro Library S F 1885, down the spine. This has numerous blank endpaper before and after the actual publication. 6” x 8 ¼”. The text is still readable but the old English spellings make it a bit more difficult. See the images for more details.
