Chicago, P T Sherlock, 1880, Hardcover
Presumed 1st edition, Good
The Case of Ireland Stated Historically: From the Earliest Times to the Present with A Gazetteer by Peter T Sherlock. Chicago: P T Sherlock. 1880. Green cloth hardcover with gold lettering. A fact-filled, and very anti-English, book detailing the consequences of the occupation of Ireland. “The mere Irish were not only accounted aliens, but enemies, and altogether out of the protection of the law, so it was no capital offense to kill them" - Sir John Davies. Wow! The book provides a comprehensive historical account of Ireland, covering its political, social, economic, cultural, and religious development, as well as its relationship with England. It utilizes a range of primary and secondary sources to offer a detailed look at Irish history up to that point. The book also includes a gazetteer, offering geographical, descriptive, and statistical information about Ireland. 352 pages. Mild general cover and edge wear. Internally good. Front brown endpaper gutter just beginning to split, and a small hole in the center. Rear gutter good. The main pages remain clean and tight. Decent copy of this scarce title.
