First edition. [xxxi] 159pp, Seven plates, six of which are colored. Rebound in 2010 by master bookbinder Lawrence Yerkes in half dark red calf with hand marbled paper over boards and a stamped leather spine label. 

Wardrop was among the first to systematically study and document the pathological anatomy of ocular disease. In this work, he offers detailed clinical and post-mortem observations on a range of eye conditions, particularly tumors and inflammation, laying the groundwork for modern ophthalmic pathology.

"The object of the following essays is to describe the various morbid alterations of the human eye, and to illustrate, by engravings, those which are most remarkable,"- From the Preface.
