Cataract extraction, when first introduced, was regarded by many as a passing fashion, but Wenzel adopted the new procedure with enthusiasm, and in the course of time improved it. In 1772 he was appointed oculist to King George III.
Doctor L. Webster Fox was a prominent ophthalmic surgeon. In his later years, his work took him to the western United States to treat the Blackfeet Indians. For his role in bringing about the elimination of trachoma, an eye disease prevalent among native Americans, Dr. Fox was adopted into the Blackfeet tribe.- Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
