The English Rose Sea Training Scheme for Girls, provided hands-on sea training to young women post‑World War II. It operated until 1961. The scheme featured two training vessels: The original 122‑ton "English Rose" (mid‑1940s) and a smaller 33‑ton "English Rose II" added in 1954 . Its mission was to offer seamanship experience including navigation, knot tying, watchkeeping, and basic drills to girls who might not otherwise access maritime training. As a female only sailing program it was exceptional in introducing young women to life at sea and maritime skills.
