An 8 page letter on Alpha Delta Phi House stationery, mailed September 26, 1898 from Amherst MA to  Corporal Warren D. Mentioned are George Olds who was a professor of mathematics at the college 1891-1927; the gap in the presidency of the college between Merrill Edwards Gates and George Harris; and the death of Bill [William A.] Talcott, born 1871, a fraternity brother who played for the baseball team, and was a cadet at Harvard before volunteering and being shipped to Santiago. He was one of the charge up San Juan Hill, but died of malaria and dysentery soon after arriving home. [some fold separations]
