1889 billhead, illustrated with a fine engraving of the Rondout NY waterfront. The steam barge is named “Limerock of Newark NJ”; The Newark Lime & Cement Manufacturing Company is shown at “Foot of Bridge St.” in Rondout. The company began operations in 1851 on 250 acres on the channel of the Rondout Creek and was the largest concern in Rondout (which became part of Kingston in 1872). The stone for the cement was quarried from the property. Head office was in Newark NJ; President Walter Tomkins (1818-1896) was the company founder, along with his son-in-law James G. Lindsley.
