First (only) printing, Fine

Unusually fine copy of a German book of midraschic tales retold for children. Most of an original wax paper wrapper is present. The book is not illustrated. Gift inscription on the front free endpaper to Hans Mühlfelder in recognition of his accomplishments from two representatives of the Mannheim Jewish community, dated 18, March, 1937. Hans was born in 1924 and this gift likely coincided with completion of his bar mitzvah studies at age 13. He made it to New York and anglicized his name to Kenneth Milford. Condolences at his funeral in 2015 describe him warmly as a person of deep culture involved in books and book arts. As Kenneth Milford he was a book designer and interested in printing history. Clearly, judging from the condition of the book, his concern for books began at an early age. .
