Item Details

Guatemala, C.A, Impreso por Lito. B. Zakik y Cia., (1952)

Two portfolios (18" x 14"). Each portfolio includes descriptive text sheet in English and Spanish and 6 color lithographs of native Guatemalan costumes, signed in the plate. Original printed thin cardstock covers (some edgewear and creasing to edges); lithographs are in near fine to fine condition (tiny pinholes at corners of some lithographs; old short tape strips on verso of some images, not sure the reason as there are no tears in the paper).

Tomo I includes images of costumes from Santiago Atitlan; Solola; San Martin Sacatepequez (Chile Verde); San Antonio Aguas Calientes; Coban; and Todos Santos Cuchumatanes. Tomo II includes images of costumes from Santa Maria Chiquimula; San Pedro Sacatepequez - San Marcos; San Juan Sacatepequez; Palin; Nebaj; and Chichicastenango. The text sheet provides a description for each image, explaining type of garment, materials, native names for the attire and explains variations in style, renowned weaving villages' styles, particularities from regions, in hats, sandals and other wear.
