[MILITARY]  [UNITED STATES NAVY]  [UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS]  [UNIFORMS]  Navy Department, United States of America.  Illustrated government issued book titled Uniform Regulations United States Navy: Together with Uniform Regulations Common to Both Navy and Marine Corps  (Washington: GPO, 1913).

Olive green cloth with gilt cover title; 76pp, including index, plus 29 full-page plates.  Book measures 9.25 x 6 inches.  The gilt is missing from the letter “T” in the word “Regulations” on the cloth cover title; several neatly written identification notes written in soft pencil; o/w in VG+ condition.  [B11-84]

The book illustrates uniform dress, insignia, and badges for both officers and enlisted men.  “Officers in authority shall assure themselves that all officers and enlisted men serving under them conform strictly to these uniform regulations.”  The Secretary of the Navy, G. v. L. Meyer, writes “The regulations contained herein shall govern the uniform of the officers and enlisted men of the United States Navy, and, as far as they apply, of the United States Marine Corps also.  The changes necessary to make former uniforms and equipments conform hereto will be made as soon as practicable and be completed not later than July 1, 1913; after which date no article of officers’ uniform or equipments that does not conform to these regulations shall be worn.”

Great visual guide for helping to date and identify military photographs of the period.
