1862-1865
Three Original U.S. Civil War military documents, one muster roll from early in the war in and the others return documents dated April and May, 1865, just after Lee surrendered on April 9th.
The Muster Roll is for the 14th Regiment of the Maine volunteer infantry, Colonel Frank W. Nicholson, August through October 1862. Fifteen men are listed and there is also some pay information on the right side of the large document. With considerable wear, notations and old taping of the edges.
Next, “Monthly Return of Clothing, Camp and Garrison Equipage.” Received at Augusta, Maine by Captain James W Libby, commanding Company K 14th Maine Volunteer Infantry during the month of March 1865. Signed by Captain Libby in Savannah, GA on April 17th 1865. It records official military issue and return accounting for scores of different types of clothing and equipment. The boys were finally going home! Very good condition.
Finally, a similar document but “Quarterly Return of Ordnance and Ordnance Stores” for the quarter ending March 31st 1865 and dated May 3rd 1865. This is also signed by Captain Libby while in Georgia. Very good condition.
The 14th Maine served extensively in the Deep South, adding strong historical and regimental interest. See also my other Civil War items.
