1946, Softcover

Before the Indian Claims Commission No. 23, The Chickasaw Nation, Petitioner vs. The United States, Defendant, Brief of the Chickasaw Nation, Statement of the Claim by William A Cornish, Paul M Niebell, Attorneys, Press of the Star Printery, Muskogee, Oklahoma.

125-page booklet elaborately states the case for the Chickasaw Nation claiming restitution for their loss of title to over 5 million acres in the Western U.S. “for a pittance”. The publication is undated, but seems to be supporting a 1946 claim to the Indian Claims Commission Act, established in 1946 to address historical grievances and broken treaties. The post-WWII Act was partly in response to the Native American’s important service in the war.

Somewhat oddly, I cannot find any other examples of this booklet on ViaLibri, Worthpoint, or Worldcat. Seemingly a relatively small run for a local Oklahoma press. In good condition with some foxing to cover, corner wear and light staining, and old erased price at upper right. Internally very good.
