1928
Beautiful 1920s photo album containing 65 photographs of sights and activities in South America; a treasure trove for those interested in South American history. The mostly annotated images include The University of San Marcos in Lima (oldest University in America), Quito streets, and several related to the Chimbote Railway. There are also images related to the Frederick Snare Corp (an engineering and construction company), including a Jackhammer Demonstration and several photos of their quarry (4 miles no of Callao, Peru. Then we move to Trujillo and Samne (Peru), and back to the quarry, including a wonderful image of “The Blast”. Several images of a camping and fishing trip (1928) at San Lorenzo Island are included with 7 men identified. Also pictured is the Olmos Irrigation Project, market day at Hualgayoc and Bambamarca (and Indian town), La Mina Purgatorio (Venezuala), and many clear images of Quito architecture. Included toward the end are Captain Brennan of the Grace steamer Santa Cruz, more images of Guayaquil, Ecuador and the Island of Puna, and the river steamer “Olmeada”. The aforementioned photos are each 3 ½” by 5 ½”, and the albums ends with a larger group image of staff at the Casapalca Mine of the Cerro de Pasco Co. Well photographed; most of the photos are very clear and detailed.
Handmade album is in good condition, with covers intact but most of the internal pages separated from the string binding. Also with an address label on rear cover.
