Beautiful photogravure of “Hell’s Half Mile”, a Class IV-V rapid upstream of the Grand Canyon, being traversed (with difficulty) by The Kolb brothers. An excellent piece—retaining its original mat, miniature 1913 calendar, attached paper description at upper left, and string hangar. The Kolb Brothers were pioneering photographers and filmmakers who helped popularize the Grand Canyon with their evocative imagery. This stretch of the Green River often required early boaters to carry their wooden boats through the rough rocks, which is depicted here. The mat is 14 x 16 inches with the image about 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches.
Wonderful condition, unmarred on the front, complete 12-month calendar, and with some age toning and small surface loss on the back.
