Item Details

PARIS, F. CHAMPENOIS, 1899

This trade card advertises the opening of the Paris shoe store A La Merveilleuse.  It was printed for this specific event and features a signed illustration by Alphonse Mucha.

Alfons Maria Mucha ( 1860 - 1939, known internationally as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. He lived in Paris during the Art Nouveau period and was widely known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs which became among the best-known images of the period.

3 7/8" X 5 1/2" - printed on card stock by Ferdinand Champenois and in very good condition.  The reverse is blank.

(I could find no other examples of this card or of this image by Mucha.  Because it was printed to announce the opening date of a specific business, I am assuming that this card is extremely rare.)
