Texas Christian University (TCU) is a private research university in Fort Worth, Texas. It was established in Fort Worth in 1873 by brothers Addison and Randolph Clark (when they returned from fighting for the Confederacy) as the AddRan Male & Female College. It is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The area of Fort Worth surrounding the College was irreparably changed by the Chisholm Trail, which expanded the town by becoming a stopping place for cattlemen on their way to the northern sales points bringing saloons, brothels and rooming houses to a previously quiet little area. The college moved out some 40 miles into the country and finally to Waco. After 40 years and a bad fire demolishing the administration building, Fort Worth authorities come up with a financial plan to lure the college back to Fort Worth, where it remains today.
