Enlightening  and amusing little history by one of the sons of Edward Eberstadt who in about 1910 founded the Hudson Book Company in Tarrytown, N.Y., then the firm moved to  New York as Edward Eberstadt, and later, as his sons joined the firm, it became Edward Eberstadt & Sons; finally going out of business on the death of Lindsey Eberstadt in 1985. There is brief mention of the men who started the interest in the subject in that late 19th century and the first half of the 20th.  Beinecke, Coe, Bancroft, Wagner and Streeter Pointing out the unique qualities of the West that attracted men of action to the still wild West with the hordes of buffalo, the outlaws and their nemesis, the lawmen; memories of the conquistadores, the still unconquered Native American tribes making their last stand; the rough and tumble of the gold rushes; the whole area conjured up adventure, glamor, and profit.
