In 2021, NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) published this digital, interactive graphic novel about a pioneering young Hispanic girl who battles the odds & becomes not only an astronaut, but the first woman & person of color to step foot on the moon, assisted by a diverse crew of human & robotic helpers. In this XR-enabled (virtual + augmented reality) book, the reader is invited to accompany Commander Callie Rodriguez on her mission by downloading the QR codes provided, installing the First Woman app, & exploring the website, which offers text in both English & Spanish. In 40 colorful pages, with a tribute to the "trailblazing" real-life women in the space program, including cosmonaut Valentina V. Tereshkova, the first women in space in 1963, 7 US astronaut Sally Ride in 1983) inside the back cover designed to inspire hope in young people everywhere to "reach for the starts." Never marketed or sold ("Not for sale. for general public use"" stamped on front cover), the book was released to celebrate National Comic Book Day in 2021. Two subsequent issues were produced in 2023. However, as part o the Trump Administration's crackdown on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) programs, the link to the book on NASA's website was disabled in March 2025, though discussion of the book has reappeared as of June 2025.
Condition Fine: colorful wrappers, 2-staple binding. A hint of rubbing to lower extremities. Else, as new & never opened. Bagged in clear mylar & boarded.
