Very good
2 pp letter on 4pp lettersheet. San Francisco postmark October 22, 1851. Writer describes devastating loses in the fires of may and June. Some mining content. In 1856 Lander is listed as a Real Estate Investor.
.........my misfortunes since you last saw me have been intolerable, almost more than I could bear. I lost by two fires of 4 May and 22 June, $15,000.00 worth of property. But your claim on me for $1450.00 is as secure as can be. I took the precaution to have them deposited in a fireproof vault, else they would have been all lost.
