[London], The Gogmagog Press, 1972, Hard cover
First Edition, First Printing, Very Good
SIGNED by Morris Cox on the colophon, one of 50 numbered and signed copies.
The book features eight original intaglio prints interspersed with the poems, which appear in seven sections.
Cox (1903-1998) explains the poems in a preface written in third person; some can be read aloud, others cannot. Those that cannot be read aloud "depend on a form of distilled imagery and abstraction intended to be sensed through the eye only." Cox's bibliographers say the book "has wild experiments among his poems..."
As usual, a beautiful production from Morris Cox's Gogmagog Press. Chambers 22 (David Chambers, Colin Franklin, and Alan Tucker, Gogmagog: Morris Cox and the Gogmagog Press, 1991).
PHYSICAL DETAILS: Small Quarto (9.25 x 5.75 inches; 240 x 155 mm), [96] leaves joined at the fore edges, printed on Japanese kozu-shi (mulberry) paper for the text, tairei ("full ceremonial") for the endpapers, and amime ("net-mesh") for the boards. Covered in an ill-fitting clear acetate dust jacket.
CONDITION: Upper board slightly bowed, small tear to bottom of spine, foxing to top edge, and a slight musty smell. The clear acetate dust jacket has a couple of nicks and is unevenly folded. About Very Good overall.
