Item Details

San Diego, Panama California International Exposition, 1916, Leaflet

God

Four panel, folding program. Program includes Tommassino's Band, Rev. H.P. Bard, a Vocal Solo by Mrs. Ella Palmer, titled "George Wharton James" with lyrics by Fred Ernerson Brooks, Music by Dr. H.J. Stewart. A collection was held for proceeds to be devoted to a bust of Dr. James for the Public Library, with Miss Mann as sculptor. President G. A. Davidson presented the medal, with an address by George Wharton James.

Just a few days before the end of the two year  long, somewhat controversial exposition held in San Diego, California, between January 1, 1915, and January 1, 1917. The exposition celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal, and was meant to tout San Diego as the first U.S. port of call for ships traveling north after passing westward through the canal, however the fair was held in San Diego's large urban Balboa Park. Much less widely attended, celebrated and acknowledged than the Panama-Pacific Exposition. Scarce. None in trade or holdings as of July 2025. Creasing and mild softening, but intact.   Very good. Leaflet .  (2466 30102)
