An announcement by Lejaren à Hiller of his move to a new studio in the Printing Crafts Building, New York City,  with a half-tone reproduction of one of his photographs, tipped in, and a second half-tone of the same image laid in. Each half-tone is 9 x 6 inches in size. The whole announcement was printed on a large sheet, 32 x 22”,  then folded twice, so when folded each viewing panel is 16 x 11”  The original photograph for the half-tones was signed by the photographer and the signatureis visible in the half-tones, lower right. The second half-tone is mounted to a 10 x 26 1/2 sheet of paper, folded vertically. The announcement and the half-tones were printed by the Beck Engraving Company. Beginning his career as an illustrator, Lejaren à Hiller (1880-1969) later embraced photography as a means of illustrating fiction.  He staged dramatic, sometimes melodramatic, tableaux which he photographed for his projects and commissions.  His best known work of photographic illustration is Surgery Through the Ages (New York, Books, Inc. 1944)SEE:https://archive.aperture.org/article/1985/03/03/lejaren-a-hiller)

Beck Engraving Company (1894-1989) gained a national reputation for four color plate printing, the Bassani Halftone process, and became one of the first sheet-fed gravure plants in the U.S. Beck Engraving was incorporated in 1898 and the company expanded its operations to New York City in 1910.
