A two-page sheet music entitled The Old Maid or When I was a Girl of Eighteen Years Old that is barely held together but by one thread. Its significance lies in the label at the top of the page as being sheet music sold by George P. Knauff of Farmville, Virginia. Knauff was a talented musician and piano builder who came to Farmville in the 1830s to build pianos and teach music at the Farmville Female Seminary. At one time he had the only piano manufactory between Baltimore and Charleston, SC. Knauff is credited with actually putting old fiddle tunes that were never written into music before on paper.
