Wonderful Portland, Oregon pocket map published by W.B. Marye, County Surveyor of Multnomah County, Oregon in January 1886. Map of the cities of Portland, East Portland and Albina, compiled January 1886, showing street names, city limits, the names of owners of some large plots of land, Donation Land Claim names and section numbers. The Willamette River from Ross Island to Swan Island is also on the map, as are Guild's Lake, Tanner Creek and several unnamed creeks. Four ferry lines cross the Willamette River at Jefferson St., Stark St., and Albina. An unnamed ferry connects the railroad yards on the east and west sides of the river. Several streetcar lines, railroad lines and rail yards appear on the map. Some are labelled: Oregon Railway and Navigation Co., Willamette Valley Railroad, Northern Pacific Terminal Co. and Railroad and Oregon and California Railroad. Map also notes City Boundaries, Wharves, Plank Roads to Wharves, Fire Limits, Rail Roads, Street Railways, and Vacated Streets.
Likely marketed as an advertising piece. Our copy is compliments of W.M. Wisdom, Family Chemist, located at the corner of First and Stark Streets in Portland. The copies held by the Multnomah County Library and Oregon Historical Society Library do not have an advertiser's imprint. Yale University also holds a copy of this map. These are the only three institutions we find holding this rare map as of June 2025.
