[Los Angeles] Orpheum Theater Vaudeville Poster from 1915, 41 x 14.5 inches.

Poster was previously folded with offsetting. Edge wear and light chipping. Green and orange ink. Despite any flaws, the broadside presents very well. Good condition.

Fun broadside for the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles headlining Chas. Howard with Kernan Cripps and Margaret Taylor in "The Happy Combination". Opening acts include Violinsky, The Grazers, Signor R.S. Valenza, Charles E. Evans and Rives and Harrison. In addition, the performance included Ralph Dunbar's Salon Singers and Billie Burke's Tango Shoes. 

Los Angeles had a long history with vaudeville including at least four theaters under the banner of Orpheum. In 1915, the location was likely the 630 S. Broadway location, which is still standing as the Palace Theater.

Vaudeville acts were popular into the 20th century featuring comedy sketches, song and dance numbers, magic acts, acrobatics, jugglers etc. presenting numerous unrelated and unique acts in one performance. Critics rarely would classify vaudeville as high art, but this poster claims this 1915 performance is "The Only High Class Vaudeville Circuit".

I did learn a new word from this broadside--"Terpsichorean", which means relating to dancing or dance.  The Grazers were a Musical and Terpsichorean Novelty Act.
