[Louisiana Purchase] Balance and Columbian Repository Newspaper, Hudson, New York August 16, 1803, No. 33 Vol. II, Sampson, Chitenden & Croswell, 10.5 x 8.5 inches, 8pp.
Paper is disbound. Light foxing with moderate wear to edges, bottom corners dog-eared. Previously folded. Blue ink at top left. Good Condition.
First issue of at least a five-part essay regarding the Louisiana Purchase. "A comparative view of the disadvantages and benefits, which would probably accrue to the United States, from an enlargement of their territorial limits by the purchase of either Louisiana or Florida."
Interesting debate about Louisiana Purchase but also curious in that the purchase had already been completed a month earlier. Other articles in paper debate freedom of the press and is decidedly anti-Thomas Jefferson in tone.
