[Manuscript] How to Hit, Johnny Mize as told to Murray Kaufman
Carbon copy of the manuscript "How to Hit" by Hall of Fame baseball star Johnny Mize. Numerous corrections and changes in pencil. Leaves of thin tissue with many bent corners and small chips. Light toning. Rust marks on first two leaves from wire clip. 62pp., 8.5 x 11 inches. Signed cover sheet from co-author Murray A. Kaufman in sleeve--mild soiling and wear. Good condition overall.
Johnny Mize had retired from the game before I was even born yet in my formative little league years, I heard many stories from dad and others about the "The Big Cat", Johnny Mize. Many of the tales likely revolved around his five straight World Series Rings he won with the dreaded New York Yankees, from 1948-1953.
For those who keep score, Mize' lifetime batting average was.312, with 2011 hits, 359 home runs and 1,337 RBI's. No wonder his book was titled "How to Hit"! The book was published by Henry Holt & Co. in 1953. Mize was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981.
Murray Kaufmann note that this manuscript is the final revised copy. "If you have any corrections or additions, please let me know." Therefore, it is safe to assume the pencil notations are from Mize himself.
Nice item of baseball memorabilia from one of the best hitters the game has seen. And a perfect present for any fan of the game.
