Rink and Roller--A Journal to Uphold and Promote Roller-Skating in America, Vol. 1 No. 13 March 21, 1885
8-page newspaper style publication. Measures 16 x 11 1/4 inches. Fair condition. First and last leaves separated. Chips and tears to all edges. Page 8 is moderately foxed and soiled.
Seemingly very uncommon newspaper devoted to roller skating in America. No publisher listed but the paper originates from New York City. Consists of snippets from roller rinks around the country, efforts to establish a national organization of rink managers and several pages of ads.
Rink and Roller even employ a "Special Correspondent" reporting on skating news from throughout the country. The popularity of skating ebbs and flows with identified 'crazes' in the 1880's, 1905 and 1950's.
This journal feels like it would be obscure and indeed we find no records in OCLC or in commerce or auction records. I cannot believe it to be this rare, yet multiple searches have turned up nothing. I'll leave it to a more proficient cataloger to track down more favorable results.
