A compelling collection of 100 original 4 x 6 inch color photographs by MX68, a practicing graffiti artist and photographer, capturing freight train graffiti across the United States from the 1990s through early 2000s. The images span boxcars, tankers, and hoppers bearing tags, throw-ups, and full-car bombing from dozens of artists. Taken in rail yards, sidings, and train lines nationwide, the photos offer a mobile portrait of American graffiti at a time when freight cars served as canvases for traveling street art.
The majority of graffiti documented here is by various artists. Notably, several photographs feature handwritten autographs, signatures, or crew tags on the verso, likely penned by the graffiti writers responsible for the art shown—enhancing provenance and allowing connections to regional or national graffiti networks of the era.
Printed on photo lab stock and generally well preserved, the images show only minor wear. This is both a cultural archive and a field-level record of ephemeral art—rich with insight for historians, collectors, and enthusiasts of graffiti, railroads, and visual subcultures.
