CDVs of ferrotypes of Sgt. Amos Humiston and his three children. The children’s picture was found on Sgt. Humiston’s lifeless body, found without formal identification after the first day’s battle at Gettysburg – and it was wide circulation of the photo that led to his identification. Humiston’s widow would become matron of a home for war orphans built beside the battlefield at Gettysburg; these CDVs were sold to raise money for the construction and upkeep of the home. Measure @ 2.5 x 4 inches. Both in very good condition; please see photos.
