Paris, 1838, Hardcover
Bound volume containing a complete set of 72 hand-colored lithograph plates from Victor Adam's Musée du Chasseur, ou Collection de Toutes les Espèces de Gibier de Poil ou de Plume qu'on Chasse au Fusil [Museum of the Hunter, or Collection of All Types of Game, Furred or Feathered, that are Hunted with a Rifle]. Adam's work was published in 1838 in two volumes, each containing text and 36 plates. The book offered here contains the plates from both volumes, but no text or title page. It measures 7" x 10.25" (oblong) and is bound in roughly contemporary pebbled cloth, which is well worn, including some loss of cloth at spine. The plates, each of which includes a caption, series number, and imprint, show varying degrees of foxing and soiling, but most is to the margins. They include depictions of 56 species of land and aquatic game birds and 16 mammals, among them bear, wolves, foxes, badgers, otters, boar, mountain goats, rabbits, and various species of deer.
