First Edition, Very good

First edition. Two volumes (pp. viii, 520; (4), 502) in original cloth with mounted paper labels on spines, complete with frontis portrait of Jay in Volume I. Bindings sound, text clean (very minor scattered foxing). Endpapers in Vol. II are foxed, and front free endpaper has some loss. Bards rubbed, chipping to spine labels, spine of Volume II sunned. Still a very good set overall. John Jay was a diplomat, Founding Father, and first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. His son, William, was a judge and ardent abolitionist.
