Very Good

9" x 6", 34 pp, stapled wrappers. Accession date stamp on front cover, otherwise unmarked, Very good.

A scarce guide to health and safety practices for children's camps issued by the Committee on Camp Procedures of the Children's Welfare Federation (CHF)--an organization founded in 1912 (and originally called the Babies' Welfare Federation) and dedicated to reducing infant mortality and promoting the health and welfare of children generally. Public health pioneer Dr. Sara Josephine Baker was one of the organization's leaders.  Among other projects, the CHF provided funding to send children from low-income urban communities to summer camp. This book, prepared for camp directors, includes guidelines on inspecting and maintaining camp grounds, buildings, and equipment; ensuring a safe supply of water and milk; providing medical inspections and care for counselors and campers; procedures to follow in the event of a contagious disease; and instructions for food handling and ongoing cleaning of beds and linens and camp buildings. At the end is a list of about 30 books on camp-related subjects (field guides, woodcraft, storytelling, games, etc.) compiled from camp directors' recommendations -- because "every camp should have a library." One copy located in OCLC.
