Group of three programs documenting the work of Katharine Dunham.
1) Martin Beck Theatre. S. Hurok Presents Katharine Dunham and Her Company in Tropical Revue. Week beginning Sunday, October 17, 1943. 4 pp., single sheet folded. The lead number was "Primitive Rhythms," based on a Melanesian folk story. Its prominence may have been connected to wartime events.
2) S. Hurok Presents Katharine Dunham and her Company of Dancers - Singers - Musicians Katharine Dunham and Her Company with Lenwood Morris - Vanoye Aikens - Lucille Ellis [etc.]. Week beginning December 5, 1955. Self-wrappers, 28 pp. Playbill for the Broadway Theatre. Completely different program from the preceding, emphasizing in the first half Brazilian (Bahian) sources, and other Latin American sources (Mexican, Argentinian (tango)) in the second half.
3) S. Hurock Presents Katharine Dunham and Her Company. Souvenir program for the 1950-1951 season. 4to. Overview of the company, report on her European tour in the late 1940s, photographs of rehearsals, Le Jazz Hot, which figured in the 1943 program, Veracruzana, which figured in the 1955 program, etc.
All in very good condition.
