Item Details

Scarce early brochure for The Barbizon, “New York’s Most Exclusive Hotel Residence for Young Women”. 12 pages including covers, 6 ½” x 9 ¾”, undated but circa 1950 based on the clothing, very good condition with light wear/toning. With many photos and a small map of the neighborhood..

This all-female resident hotel was known as a place for “modern women” to not only live, but pursue activities like exercise, music, acting interviews, clubs and more. They even had their own modeling and acting school! Many famous women resided there including Grace Kelly, Liza Minelli, Sylvia Plath, Molly Brown and Joan Didion, and it was even the subject of a book: “The Barbizon: The Hotel That Set Women Free.”
