Baltimore, Miller & Beacham, 1857
Fair to good condition for its age with some foxing throughout.
Here is a remnant of a long-lost Southside Virginia educational school for women that was established in the early 1830s. It is a rare example of piano sheet music BUCKINGHAM GRAND MARCH composed by Arnaud Preot, a native of Lille, France in1857. He previously taught at Walkhill Academy in Pennsylvania and was a professor of music and languages at Southworth College in Petersburg, Virginia. He moved to Buckingham County in the 1850s to teach music at the Female Collegiate Institute, which closed with the onset of the Civil War. Afterwards, Preot took a job as a music and French teacher at Farmville Female College and was then named President after George Lamont left the School.
Only one building and mounds of brick are left of what was the B.F.C.I. but the illustration adorning the cover gives an idea of what the grounds were like. The Lithograph is credited to Sarony, Major & Knapp of 440 Broadway, NY.
